Dr. Metin Gönen was born in Istanbul in 1964. After graduating from the Department of Cinema and Philosophy of University of Paris 8, he obtained his Master′s degree at his alma mater. With a scholarship, he completed his Doctoral degree in Philosophy with Prof. Alain Brossat at University of Paris 8 in 2001. Gönen taught philosophy and Cinema at the Institut Catholique d′Arts et Metiers, l′ICAM de Lille for 5 years. With his colleagues, he established the international association "Göçebe Felsefe /Nomadic Philosophy" (Ici et Ailleus, Associtation Pour Une Philosophie Nomade) and served as a board member. He also gave many seminars about philosophy and cinema.
In 2007 Dr. Gönen returned to Istanbul and started teaching at Istanbul Kültür University. He organized cinema workshop at the Architecture Department of Istanbul Technical University. Gönen served as an educational director of the Plat Film School; organized cinema seminars at the Beyoğlu Karşı Art. He has also taught all about cinema at many places including Öteki Kültür Sanat, Kazım Koyuncu Culture Center, Beksav, and Mesopotamia Culture Center. He has written many articles and film reviews for various newspapers and magazines. He has joined radio and TV programs on cinema and philosophy. Dr. Gönen is a member of SIYAD.
