Münir Özkul was born in Istanbul in 1925. He finished Istanbul High School for Boys. He started acting at the Bakirkoy Public Theatre. He then worked at the Ankara State Theatre, the Istanbul State Theatre and the Istanbul City Theatre. Özkul became famous in the play "Fareler ve Insanlar (Mice and Men)." Since 1950s he has acted in more than 400 films and TV series. In 1970s, Özkul acted with the actress Adile Naşit in Ertem Egilmez′s films such as "Hababam Sınıfı," "Şabanoğlu Şaban," "Mavi Boncuk," "Banker Bilo," and "Namuslu."
Özkul has received several awards including an Golden Orange Award for Best Actor (1972), the title of “State Artist” from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism (1998) and the Presidential Culture and Art Grand Award (2015).
