Nurgül Yeşilçay was born in Afyon in 1976. She finished middle and high school education in Izmir. In 2001, she graduated from the Theater Department at Eskişehir Anadolu University. During studying at University, she performed in the TV drama “İkinci Bahar”. Since her graduation, she has performed several major roles for the stage, including Ophelia in “Hamlet” and Blanche DuBois in “A Streetcar Named Desire”. In addition to theater, Yeşilçay has acted in many TV dramas and films. She made her screen debut in 2001 in Semir Arslanyürek′s feature film “Şellale”, (The Waterfall). In 2002, she portrayed “Bahar” in the TV drama “Asmalı Konak”, which was directed by Çağan Irmak. In the same year, she performed in the film “Mumya Firarda” with Teoman. Yeşilçay co-starred with Özcan Deniz in the film “Asmalı Konak-Hayat” (2003); and acted the role of Saliha in the “Anlat İstanbul” (2004), which was directed by five different directors. In 2005, Yeşilçay won the Best Actress Award for her acting in the film “Eğreti Gelin” (Borrowed Bride), which was directed by Atıf Yılmaz, in the 12th Adana Altın Koza Film Festival. In 2007, she received “Best Actress” award for her acting in the film “Adem’in Trenleri”, which was directed by Barış Pirhasan, at the 13th Sadri Alışık Acting Awards and the 15th ÇASOD Modern Screen Actors Guild Awards. She was a jury member in the 27th International Istanbul Film Festival in 2008. In the same year, Yeşilçay won "Best Actress" at the 45th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival for her performance in the Erden Kıral’s film “Vicdan”, (Conscience) which was directed by Altın Ayı. Currently, Yeşilçay lives and works in Istanbul.
