Önder Çakar was born in Istanbul in 1963. He graduated from the Department of Economics at Istanbul University. In 1995 he established the film company "Yeni Sinemacıları." His first scenario for the film "Gemide" was shot in 1998. It was followed by other films such as "Laleli′de Bir Azize" (1998), "Dar Alanda Kısa Paşlaşmalar" (2000), "Maruf" (2001), and "Takva" (2006). He also produced many films including "Gemide," "Köprüdekiler" (2009), and "Çoğunluk" (2010). In 1998 Çakar received the Second-Best Feature Film Prize for the film "Gemide" in the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. In 2006 he won the Best Scenario Prize for the film "Takva" in the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. Çakar currently lives and works in Istanbul.
