Pelin Esmer was born in Istanbul in 1972. After graduating from Boğaziçi University, she studied cinema at Yavus Özkan’s Z1 Film Workshop for a year. Since 1995, she has shot long and documentary films as an assistant director in Turkey and abroad. Among her films as an assistant director are “Cumhuriyet” (director: Ziya Öztan), “Gönlümdeki Köşk" (director: Elisabeth Rygard), and “Deliyürek” (director: Osman Sınav). Besides them, she has shot numerous commercial films as an assistant director. In 2002, she shot the documentary film “Koleksiyoncu” as a director for the first time. She participated in many festivals both in Turkey and abroad. She was awarded “the Best Three Documentary Film” in the 14th Ankara Film Festival. In the same year, she directed the experimental film “Kar”. In 2009 she received the Jury Special Prize for “11’e 10’ kala” (10 to 11) in the 28th International Istanbul Film Festival. In the same year, she was also awarded the best director for “11’e 10’ kala” in the 16th Altın Koza Film Festival.
