Savaş Arslan

Dr. Savaş Arslan is a Professor of Film and Television at Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul. After graduating from Bilkent University, he pursued his Master′s degree at the same university. He completed his doctoral degree in Art History and Criticism at Ohio State University in 2005. Since 2006 he has taught at the Department of Cinema and Television in the Faculty of Communication at Bahçeşehir University.

Prof. Dr. Arslan has published articles on Turkish cinema, arts, and culture in a variety of international journals and magazines including Cineaste, Shakespeare, Film International, and Cinemascope; and contributed a chapter to the book Youth Culture in Global Cinema, edited by Timothy Shary and Alexandra Seibel. In addition, Arslan has published the book Melodrama (2005) and Cinema in Turkey: A New Critical History (2011) as well as various journal and magazine articles along with contributions to a number of other chapters to books in Turkish, including Avrupa’da Medya, Kültür ve Kimlik (2009). Prof. Dr. Arslan is a co-chair of the EU project "European Media and Cultural Studies Master′s Studies and Media Awareness" and a coordinator of the international relationship at Bahçeşehir University, the Faculty of Communication. He is currently working on a book bearing the title "Hollywood alla Turca: A History of Cinema in Turkey."
