Türkan Şoray was born in Istanbul in 1945. She is the most important Turkish actress and her nickname is “Sultan”. She studied at the Fatih High School for Girls. She made her film debut in 1960 at just 15 years old with the film “Aşk Rüzgarı”. After the movie′s success, Türker İnanoğlu, a ′Yeşilçam′ screenwriter, film director and producer began to mentor Türkan Şoray. For the next five years, Şoray appeared in over 60 movies. After her 1965 triumph, she was named one of Turkey′s four leading actresses. She created the famous “Şoray Rules” and would only work if the studio and the directors obeyed these rules. These ′Şoray Rules′ were seen by some as the demands of a Hollywood diva, but it did pay off as she was given the respect she wanted as well as the movie roles she desired. For the remainder of the 1960’s she starred in a further 48 films, making her one of Turkey′s most successful female artists in Turkish film history because she had acted in over 100 movies in the time span of ten years. In 1964, she won her first prize when she received the best actress prize at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival for the film “Acı Hayat”. She was highly applauded for her movie choices as well as her ability to act in many different roles. She stared in "Vesikalı Yarim" for which she was given the best actress award for the second time in Antalya Film Festival. She went on working with respectable directors in her later years. One of these directors was Atıf Yılmaz with whom she worked on dramas and comedies. In the 1970′s she also acted in movies with a more realistic view. She directed 4 movies in those years as well including: “Yılanı Öldürseler” (1981, with Serif Gören), “Bordum Hakimi” (1976), “Azap” (1973) and “Dönüş” (1972). Her most recognized movies of the 1970’s included "Selvi Boylum Al Yazmalım", "Hazal", "Sultan", "Dönüş", "Baraj" and "Asiye Nasıl Kurtulur" etc. In those movies she was usually accompanied by the famous Turkish actor, Kadir İnanır. In 1980′s she began portraying women with female identity problems in movies like: "Mine", "Rumuz Goncagül" and "On Kadın" etc. In 1987 she won her third best actress award from Antalya Film Festival for the movie "Hayallerim, Aşkım ve Sen". After the 1990’s she emphasized her TV career. She stared in the dramas such as “İkinci Bahar” and “Tatlı Hayat”. As of the present day, she has stared in over 200 films.
