Ümit Elçi was born in Silifke in 1948. After finishing at Tarsus American College, he graduated from the Department of English Literature at Bogaziçi University in 1969. In 1976, he completed his master’s degree in film directing and technique at London Film School. In 1977, Elçi started working in the advertising sector. In 1985, he shot Tarık Dursun K’s “Kurşun Ata Ata Biter”. In 1989, he directed the drama “Fosforlu Cevriye” for TRT. In 1995, Elçi received the Best Film Award for his film “Bocek” in the Antalya Film Festival.
