Prof. Cana Gürmen began piano education at the Istanbul Municipality Conservatory with Prof. Ferdi Statzer and Prof. Yapalı. She gave her first chamber music concert with her brother, who played violin, when she was 10 years old. Gürmen continued her study at Mozerteum Music Academy in Salzburg, and attended Prof. Sholz, Prof. Zecchi and Prof. Engel’s classes. She also worked with Prof. Margulis and Prof. Zaritzkaya. After graduating from the Piano Department of Ankara State Conservatory in 1977, Gürmen started teaching at Istanbul University State Conservatory. In 1999, she received the title of professorship. She has also performed as a soloist, and has played with many orchestras in Turkey and abroad. She has appeared on many radio and television programs. Gürmen received high acclaim when she performed at the International Varna Festival. In 2006, she was praised for her performance with Belgrade Dusan Skrovan Chamber Orchestra.
In addition to her international performances, Gürmen has performed with remarkable Turkish artists such as Ayhan Baran (bass) and Suna Kan (violinist) in many concert halls and festivals in Turkey. In 2009, she received a prestigious annual Gold medal from the Kennedy Center International Committee on the Arts. Currently, Gürmen continues to teach at the Istanbul University State Conservatory.
