Caner Akgün was born in Zonguldak in 1981. In 1999, he started his musical studied at a Polyphonic Youth Choir, which belongs to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. He entered at Hacettepe University, Ankara State Conservatory in 2000 and studied vocal technique with Prof. Mustafa Yurdakul and Eralp Kıyıcı. Akgün attended a workshop of Prof. Helge Dorsch in 2005-2006. He also participated in a workshop of Lied Tedesco in Terni, Italy, where he studied interpretation with Elio Battaglia and vocal technique with Lucio Gallo. Between 2006 and 2008, Akgün attended Salzburg Mozarteum Academy and studied with Elio Battaglia. He graduated from conservatory in 2008.
Since 2006, Akgün has won many prizes including a third prize in a Young Voice Competition, which was organized by the Professional Voice Association in Ankara in 2006; honorable mention prize at a Lied Competition, which was organized by Sedat-Güzin Gürel Art and Science Foundation in Istanbul in 2007; and a first prize at YAMAHA International Vocal Score Competition in 2007. In addition, he received third prize in the 9th Siemens Opera Contest in 2007, and second prize in the International Young Opera Soloist Contest in Izmir in 2008. Since 2007, Akgün has performed in the Istanbul National Opera House.
