Canan Altınbaş was born in Ankara in 1974. He started playing the oud with Izzet Altınbaş and composer Selehattin Altınbaş. In 1987 he moved to Istanbul and entered the Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory, where he studied under the guidance of prominent masters such as Münir Nurettin Beken, Erol Sayan, Rahmi Sönmezocak and Nevzad Altığ. While studying at the conservatory, Altınbaş worked in the TRT Istanbul Radio. He joined many ensembles and gave various concerts in Turkey and abroad. In 2006 he played as a guest artist on the occasion of the premier of Rokus de Groot′s "Leyla and Mecnun," which was performed in Amsterdam. Altınbaş released Longa Sirto album with Mızraplar group, which was founded by Caner Altınbaş and Bora Dicle. Altınbaş currently conducts the TRT Youth Chorus and performs as a saz player in the TRT Istanbul Radio. Since 2001 he has also taught oud in the Eyüp Musiki Foundation.
