Cenk Karaferya was born in Istanbul. He moved to the US, then London with his family when he was 2 years old. He graduated from Trinity College of Music. He is one of the new generations of counter-tenors specializing in the Baroque and early Classical repertoire.

Karaferya’s operatic roles include Spirit and first Witch (Purcell′s Dido and Aeneas) and cover for Bartarido and Unolfo (Handel′s Rodelinda) for Opera de Bauge, David (Handel′s Saul) for Royal Swedish Opera Orchestra, Nero (Monteverdi′s L′incoronazione di Poppea) for TCM Opera Company, and the title role in Handel′s Rinaldo for Vivo Opera. In addition to his highly successful St John’s, Smith Square debut in June 2009, Karaferya has made solo concert appearances as part of the 2007 and 2009 London Handel Festival, Greenwich Early Music Festival, Istanbul Baroque Festival and a number of programs, in which he has worked with young period groups around the UK and in Europe.

Together with the harpsichordist and conductor Bridget Cunningham, Karaferya founded the Broschi Ensemble in 2007 to explore repertoire from the Baroque and early Classical era.

Karaferya has given countless solo recitals and attracted broadcasts over CNN, BBC Radio, RTP 2, and TRT to international acclaim. Karaferya has recorded Handel′s Messiah for documentaries shown on BBC 2 and TRT Music. He is about to record his debut album ′Vivaldi and Handel Opera Arias′ with his period group, the Broschi Ensemble conducted by Bridget Cunningham, for release in 2010.

In addition to Handel′s Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, to be performed as part of the 2010 London Handel Festival, future concert engagements include Zehra Yildiz Gala concert at Istanbul′s Albert Long Hall in December. Bononcini and Handel cantata′s with Maestro Mazzeo and Divino Sospiro at CCB Lisboa and Handel′s Messiah at St John′s, Smith Square in April, Monteverdi’s Vespers at Southwark Cathedral in May and Vivaldi′s Bajazet for the 2010 Istanbul Capital of Culture, as well as further appearances in Lisbon and Istanbul.
