Cengiz Onursal was born in Istanbul in 1961. He graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Bosphorus University in 1984. He continued his master’s degree and completed Istanbul Technical University as an Industrial Superintendent Engineer in 1987. After working as an engineer until 1996, he concentrated on his music professionally. Between 1985 and 1997, as a member of Yeni Türkü group, Onural wrote songs and performed in many albums such as “Günebakan”, “Dünyanın Kapıları”, “Yeşilmişik”, “Vira Vira”, Rumeli Konseri”, “Aşk Yeniden”, “Her Dem Yeni”, “Süper Baba”, and “Külhani Şarkılar”. He has also played for the film music including Zeki Demirkubuz’s “Masumiyet” (1997), Turgut Yasalar’s “Loeparın Kuyruğu” (1999) and Tayfun Pirselimoğlu’s “Hiçbiryerde” (2002). In 1997, Onursal founded Aria group with Bora Ebeoğlu, and has played for TV dramas, documentaries, TV commercials and multimedia productions. In the same year, he founded İncesaz group with Murat Aydemir and Derya Türkan, and has released seven albums until 2009. Onursal has also performed with Muammer Ketencoğlu, and has contributed to many albums as a composer, arranger and player.
