Karsu Dönmez was born in Amsterdam in 1990. She is a Dutch singer, pianist and composer, daughter to parents emigrated from Turkey. She was named after the village of Karsu in the Turkish province of Hatay from which her parents originated. At the age of 7, Dönmez got her own piano and immediately started taking lessons.

At fourteen, she started performing in public, at her father′s restaurant “Kilim” in Amsterdam. She performed on many local and international stages, including the renowned Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the North Sea Jazz Festival, and the Istanbul Jazz Festival. The Netherlands-American Community Trust invited Karsu to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York. Dutch media picked up on this: Karsu became the subject of numerous articles and she was a regular guest in prime time TV-shows. Dönmez was invited to perform in more than twelve countries, such as Indonesia, Germany, Belgium, Suriname, Great Brittan and Turkey.

Her first CD “Live aan ‘t IJ,” consisted of 8 songs that were registered live, was released in 2010. In October 2012, her first studio album “Confession” followed, which was received positively in the press. By 2012, Dönmez was regularly on tour performing both in the Netherlands and elsewhere around the world. Turkish media noticed her talent and she was invited to perform at one of the most popular TV-shows "Seffaf Oda.” Since then Karsu has traveled frequently to Turkey to perform in jazz festivals. She currently continues her work in the Netherlands.
