Prof. Metin Ülkü was born in Ankara in 1962. He entered Istanbul State Conservatory to study piano in 1972. He switched the department of Composition in 1978 and studied with Prof. Cengiz Tanç. Ülkü graduated from the Department of Piano in 1981. In 1982, he got the fellowship from Switzerland and went to Genève to participate in a summer class. After that he entered Lausanne Conservatory and worked with Brigitte Meyer. During summer time, he went to summer classes of Mozarteum Music Academy in Salzburg and worked with Prof. Carl Seemann. He performed Beethoven’s No.4th Piano Concerto with Lausanne Conservatory Orchestra which was conducted by Herve Klopfenstein. Ülkü has also given many solo and group recitals. He received second prize in the section of Piano; and the best pianist who can interpret the works of Turkish composer in the 4th Music Competition in 1984. In the same year, he got a diploma of “Virtuosite” from the Lausanne Conservatory. In 1985, he returned to Istanbul and completed his master’s and doctoral degrees. Ülkü has given his concerts and recitals in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. He also played with chamber music orchestras as well as symphony orchestras in Turkey and abroad. In 1996 and 1997, he participated in the Mediterranean Countries Music Schools as a speaker and artist, which was held in Aix-en Provence in France. He also made a program “Ludus Tonalis” about contemporary piano works on the “Açık Radio”. Ülkü has given his conferences in many institutions and played Turkish composer’s works. Currently he continues his work as a professor at the State Conservatory of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
