Dr. Murat Yakın

Murat Yakın was born in Ankara in 1977. He graduated from the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation at Hacettepe University. He pursued his master′s degree in music at Istanbul Technical University, Center for Advance Studies in Music, then received his doctoral degree in Music Arts at the University of Menphis.

Yakın has worked on composition with Pieter Snapper, Reuben De Lautour, Hasan Uçarsu, and Kamran Ince. His compositions reflect a tendency to use electronic resources as pre-recorded samples, live processes, and as reflections of some aspects of electronically analyzed sounds and processes to be applied to the acoustic medium. His music has been performed at many leading international contemporary music festivals  including the New Music Concerts in South Africa, the Ctrl-Alt-Del and Divertimento music festivals in Istanbul, as well as the Imagine Music Festival and the New Sound Concert Series in the US. Currently, Dr. Yakın serves as an Assistant Professor of Composition at Başkent University in Ankara.
