Özdemir Erdoğan was born into a musician family in Istanbul in 1940. After graduating from Kadıköy High School of Commerce in 1960, he completed his military service as a reserve officer and tutor in Adıyaman. In Denizli, he met Eray Turgay, a member of a TRT orchestra for pop music and jazz. Erdoğan then became familiar with jazz music and close to jazz lovers such as Arif Mardin, İsmet Sıral, Emin FIndIkoğlu, Süheyl Denizci, Nejat Cendeli, and Erol Pekcan. Between 1962 and 1964, Erdoğan learned classical guitar from famous tutors. He joined the İsmet Sıral Orchestra and gave concerts with them in Northern European countries. During their concert tour, Erdoğan met international famous jazz artists. In 1968 he established an orchestra with renowned musicians including Günnur Perin, Ayhan Yünkus, Atakan Ünüvar, Fatih Erkoç, Uğur Dikmen and Onno Tunç.
Since 1972, Erdoğan has performed in various international music festivals in the United States, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, and France. He has also attended many concerts, conferences, and panels in Turkey and abroad. He has released many plaques and CDs. In 1975 he started composing music. His album "Canın Senle Olmak İstiyor" (1976) was selected as the “Best Album of the Year” by Milliyet daily newspaper. Since 1977, he has put an importance on Turkish music. Erdoğan has totally concentrated on Turkish music, especially Turkish folk music since 1984. He established his plaque company and released many cassettes and albums such as "Bahar Şarkıları" and "Aşkımız Şarkılarda Yaşasın." He has also made numerous clips and promotions for many albums.
Erdoğan has received many national and international awards including the "Best Guitarist of the Year" award (1968), a golden plaque (1969), a TRT pop music award (1979), and the first place in the TRT Golden Antenna Competition (1990). In 1998, he received a titled of the State Artist. Özdemir Erdoğan currently continues his work in Istanbul.
