Ruşen Güneş was born in Ankara in 1940. He graduated from Ankara State Conservatory in 1961. After that, he served as a violist in the Presidential Symphony Orchestra. In 1963, Güneş received a fellowship and went to England. In 1970, he decided to move to England. In 1979, he took a position of Principal Viola in the London Philharmonic Orchestra (1979) and in the BBC Symphony Orchestra (1989). He retired in 2000. In 1998, Güneş received a title of State Artist from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in the United Kingdom and abroad. Güneş is a member of the London String Quartet as well as many other chamber groups.
