Serdar Yalçın studied piano and composition with Adnan Saydın, and graduated from two different conservatories in Turkey. He then studied orchestra conducting in Berlin for 6 years. While studying in Berlin, he worked with famous conductor Sergiu Celibidache in Munich.

Yalçın, a permanent conductor of the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet,  has staged many musical and opera works such as "Sultanların Sansı," "Tango Turco," "Evita," "Yansımaları" and "Anlat Şehrazat" not only with many Turkish orchcestras but also with international prominent orchestras including the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (Berliner Symphoniker). He has composed many works including "Anlat Şehrazat" and Murat Göksu′s "Tango Opera." At the request of the Mersin State Opera, he composed Neşet Ertaş′s work for chorus, full orchestra and soloists. The concert of this opera was broadcasted lively by TRT music channel. Yalçın arranged the opera work "Saraydan Kız Kaçırma" (the Abduction from the Seraglio) for Turkish saz instruments. This opera was performed in Vienna for two months, then toured in Europe. Yalçın currently continues working as parmanent conductor at the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Orchestra. He also serves as musical advisor of Turkish İş Bank, İş Sanat.
