Nezih Seçkin was born in Bandırma. He started music study at the age of five. He studied piano with Mithat Fenmen at Ankara State Conservatory and graduated in 1973. He received a fellowship from the Austrian Government. He studied piano with Dieter Weber and Noel Flores, and orchestra conducting with Karl Österreicher and Sergiu Celibidace at Vienna Music Academy. He graduated from the academy in 1978. Seçkin attended Celibidache’s classes in Germany. He also worked with Ilya Musin in Leningrad and with Xarife Ismailova in Turkey. Seçkin continued his conducting career with German orchestras such as the Rhineland Philharmonic, Hildesheim Opera Orchestra, and the Dortmund Philharmonic until 1990. He also worked as a guest conductor in the Magdeburg Stadt Orchestra, the Budapest Radio-TV Orchestra, the Budapest Symphony, the Limburg Staedische Orchestra, the Lübeck Opera and the Staedische Lodz Orchestra. In 1984, he conducted the premiere of Arthur Sullivan’s operetta “Penzance Porsanları” at the Hildesheim Opera in Germany. Between 1990 and 1994, Seçkin worked as a conductor in the Dortmund Instrument Verein Symphony. He went to Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, and Denmark to give numerous concerts with Polish, Hungarian and Dutch orchestras. Seçkin also performed as a guest conductor in the USA, Romania and the Czech Republic. In 1994, he conducted Turkish premiere of Handel’s famous “Messiah Oratorio”.

Seçkin returned back to Turkey to became General Music Director in the Mersin State Opera and Ballet. He made an effort to establish the State Conservatory at Mersin University. In 1995, Seçkin became Director of the Izmir State Opera and Ballet Orchestra. He has also conducted the Presidential Symphony Orchestra, the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra, the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, the Adana State Symphony Orchestra, the Bursa State Symphony Orchestra, the Antalya State Symphony Orchestra and the Eskişehir State Symphony Orchestra. He worked in many festivals including the Efes and Aspendos Festivals. In 2001, Seçkin became a conductor in the Istanbul Opera. Currently, he works as the principal conductor in the Lüneburg Opera, Germany.
