Orçun Orçunsel was born in Istanbul. When he was four years old, he started studying the piano at the Istanbul University State Conservatory. He then studied with Zeynep Yamantürk at the Piano Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory, and graduated in 2004. Orçunsel also studied with famous composers and pianists such as Ali Darmar and Prof. Ayşegül Sarıca as well as Stephen Kovacevich, Thomas Yee, and Hanry Faures.
Orçunsel has participated in various international competitions. In 2007, he attended Salzburg Summer Academy with a scholarship from Austrian High School Foundation and worked with Karl-Heinz Kammerling. Orçunsel began composing at the age of eight. He composes for many international concerts and short films. He studied conducting with Prof. Gürer Aykal at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory. In 2007, Orçunsel conducted Izmir Dokuz Eylül Symphony Orchestra and Cemal Reşit Rey Symphony Orchestra. As an assistant conductor, he conducted Yalçın Tura′s opera "Leyla and Mecnun" at the Muhsin Ertuğrul Theatre. Orçunsel worked as an assistant conductor of Cem Mansur and conducted National Youth Symphony Orchestra in 2008-2009. He conducted Antalya State Symphony Orchestra from 2011 to 2012 and Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra in 2013. Since 2009, Orçunsel has served as a permanent conductor and general art director of Orchestra′Sion, which he founded.
