Efdal Altun was born in Ankara in 1970. He graduated from the Viola Department at Hacettepe University, Ankara State Conservatory in 1992. From 1990 to 1992, he performed in many chamber music concerts as a member of the Ganiev Quartet, which was founded by Server Ganiev. In the same time, Altun also conducted as a group leader in the Anatolia Chamber Orchestra. In 1992-1998, he taught at the Viola Department of Eskişehir Anadolu University State Conservatory. From 1999 to 2008, Altun worked at the Department of Viola and Violin in the Turkish Music State Conservatory of Istanbul Technical University. In 2007, he completed his doctoral degree, proficiency in art.

Throughout his career, Altun has given many concerts in Turkey and abroad as a soloist, performing with the Ankara University Chamber Orchestra, the Mersin Chamber Orchestra, the MIAM Chamber Orchestra, the Istanbul Chamber Orchestra, the Eskisehir Municipality Symphonic Orchestra, the Eskisehir Academy Symphonic Orchestra, the Çukurova State Symphonic Orchestra and the Istanbul State Symphonic Orchestra. He has also performed as a member of numerous orchestras such as the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra, the Pommersfelden Symphonic Orchestra (as group leader), Das Treffen Opera (as Principal), the Macedonia Philharmonic Orchestra, the International Turkish Symphonic Orchestra, the Istanbul State Symphonic Orchestra and the Presidential Symphonic Orchestra. In 2006, Altun gave a chamber music concert, organized by the Istanbul Technical University Foundation for Scholarship Campaign, with world-renowned violinist Alexander Markov.

Since 1997, Altun has been a member of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra. He also performs as a member of Borusan String Quartet.
