Ezgi Kutlu was born in Istanbul. After graduating from the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts at Bilkent University, she completed her master’s degrees at the Juilliard School of Music and the Philadelphia Curtis Institute of Music. She attended master-classes by Elly Ameling, John Fisher and Marilyn Horne. Kutlu was invited to the Hampton Music Festival’s closing concert by composer Lukas Foss to sing Mahler’s “Lieder eines Fahrenden Gesellen”. She also performed works by Brahms and de Falla at the Pond Music Festival. Kutlu won the MET National Council Philadelphia District Competition, the Marian Anderson Award and the Schloss-Leopoldskron Competition. Under conductor John Rutter, she performed works by Rutter and Bernstein at the Carnegie Hall in 2006. Other performances include the roles of Orlofsky (Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus”), Miles (Britten’s “The Turn of the Screw”), Nancy and Mrs Herring (Britten’s “Albert Herring”), Carmen (Bizet’s “Carmen”), the Composer (Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos”), the Third Lady (Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte”), Dorabella (Mozart’s “Così fan tutte”), the Swiss Grandmother (John Adams’ “The Death of Klinghoffer”) and Bradamante (Handel’s “Alcina”).
