In 1986, Feridun Obul founded his workshop of musical instruments at the Department of Musicology in the Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine of Istanbul University. He has researched over 500 Central Asian musical instruments such as ceng, kubuz, şangubuz, domba, koçkarca, kılkopuz, rübab, balaban, özbek nayı, santur, koray, sıbızgı, miskal, musikar, çarta, cetigen, nakkale and nagara. He makes them by himself and introduces them to all over the world. One of his instruments is exhibited in the Austrian Presidential Palace. He has given classes about these instruments in European Universities. Obul continues to make and investigate on Turkic musical instruments and tries to pass Turkic Music Culture to the next generations. He has participated in many conferences, festivals and exhibitions: Edirne Darüşşifası Festival (1988), International Karacaoğlan Culture and Art Festival (1990), 30th International Psychiatry Conference (1994), Çorum Hittite Festival (1995), İstek Foundation exhibitions (2001 and 2002), TÜMATA Exhibition (2003), KASEV Festival (2003), Üsküdar Festival (2004), Çoskun Exhibition (2004), Eyüpoğlu Exhibition (2005), Okyanus Exhibition (2005), an exhibition which was held by Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism (2005), an exhibition which was held in Istanbul Technique University (2006) and UNESCO Mevlana Year Exhibition and Festival (2007). He received a letter of appreciation from TÜMATA in 1999.
