Halit Turgay was born in Istanbul in 1967. He studied the flute at the Municipal Conservatory of Istanbul. He won the 3rd prize at the national flute competition, organized by Mimar Sinan University in 1987. He played as the first flutist in the Akdeniz Youth Orchestra in 1987, during their European tour. He also performed at the VII. International Youth Festival in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1990 and won the first prize at the competition at this festival. He was accepted to The Royal Academy of Music in London in 1991 and worked with the worldly renowned flutist, William Bennett. Since 1993 he has been playing with the wind instrument quintet, Camerata İstanbul. He currently teaches in the Istanbul University State Conservatory. |
