Hasan Esen was born in Sivas in 1958. He started playing violin and oud in 1970s and performed at the Sivas Public Education Center. After graduating from high school, Esen studied kemançe from İhsan Özgen at Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory. In 1981 Esen joined TRT Istanbul Radio as a kemençe player. He has performed kemançe with members of TRT Istanbul Radio for recording many albums. He has also played with many renowned artists such as Necdet Yaşar, İhsan Özgen, Bekir Sıdkı Sezgin, Erol Deran, Nezih Uzel, Doğan Ergin, Kudsi Ergüner, and Süleyman Ergüner at numerous concerts in Turkey and abroad.
Esen also studied and performed Sufi music. He has performed as a member of the Süleyman Ergüner Quartet. Esen and Ergüner recorded music based on the Turkish Sufi Sema. Esen taught kemançe at Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory and Haliç University Music Conservatory. He has studied and played forgotten saz "Rebab" and santur (sinekemanı). Esen′s compositions have been awarded many times in various competitions. He has released seven albums and published the book Klasik Kemençe Metodu. Esen currently works as a choir director and kemençe player at TRT Istanbul Radio.
