Kamerhan Turan was born in Ankara in 1965. He began playing the piano at the age of seven with Prof. Ferhunde Erkin. Turan then continued his piano and music studies with the duo-pianists Elif and Bedii Aran. After his graduation in Pharmacy from the Hacettepe University in 1987, he entered the "Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst" in Vienna where he studied with Prof. Noel Flores and Prof. Roland Keller. During his studies, Turan was awarded scholarships by the Austrian Ministry of Culture and the Alban Berg Music Foundation.
His outstanding talent and remarkable virtuosity enabled him to win prizes in many international piano competitions. In 1990 and 1993, Turan won first prizes at the 5th European Music Competition in Moncalieri and the IBLA International Piano Competition in Ragusa. He received prizes at the Senigallia International Piano Competition in 1992 and the "Ettore Pozzoli" International Piano Competition in 1995. He was a finalist at the Rome International Piano Competition in 1996.
From 1999 to 2008, Turan has taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Since 2008, he has served as an Associate Professor in the Conservatory of Başkent University in Ankara. He has performed with the Presidential Symphony in Ankara, the State Symphony Orchestras of Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, and Çukurova, the Bilkent Symphony, the "Ancyra" Chamber Orchestra, the Başkent University Chamber Orchestra, the Symphonic Orchestra of Vienna Music Academy, and the Orchestra Internationale d′Italia under Hans Wallat, Helmut Zehetner, Fabio Maestri, Antonio Pirolli, Ari Rasilainen, Barry Kolman, Erol Erdinç, Emin Güven Yasliçam, Koral Çalgan, Naci Özgüç, and Ertuğ Korkmaz.
Turan has performed in significant concert halls of Austria, Turkey, Italy, Great Britain, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, Belarus, Northern Cyprus, South Korea, Egypt, and the USA, including Konzerthaus, Großer Sendesaal des ORF, Bösendorfersaal (Vienna), Atatürk Cultural Center, Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall (Istanbul), PSO Concert Hall (Ankara), Teatro Marcello (Rome), Teatro Pergolesi (Jesi), Stephanssaal (Karlsruhe), and Coffman Memorial Union Theater (Minneapolis).
He has released 6 CDs with Pepperland Records, Brilliant Classics, Harmonia Classica and Athena Records. His solo and orchestral performances have been broadcasted on the National radio stations of Turkey (TRT) and Austria (ORF). Currently, Turan teaches at the Vienna Music Academy.
