Murat Salim Tokaç was born in Kırıkkale in 1969, as the eldest son of artist, scholar, composer and military doctor Turgut Tokaç. After graduating from University of 19th May (Samsun) from Faculty of Medicine, he received the doctorate degree in the field of microbiology. In the year of 2014, he obtained the rank of associate professor in "Turkish musical performances". In 2018, he fulfilled the certificate programme and became a specialist of music therapy practices. In the same year, he accomplished his second doctorate thesis "A Comparative Research upon the Works of Buhurizade Mustafa Efendi (Itri) Within Their Period Regarding to Composition and Rhythmic Structures" and in 2021, he was appointed to Ankara Haci Bayram Veli University with the title "Professor".
Within his career in music, he was assigned to Samsun State Choir of Turkish Classical Music, affiliated to the Ministry of Culture, as ney and tanbur player, where he became the conductor of the choir in 2004. In 2007, he was assigned to a brand-new institution -of which he served among the founders-, "State Ensemble of Research and Performance on Turkish Classical Music" in Istanbul. He carried out several concerts with chorus and ensembles, gave recitals in solo performances and participated to several TV programs in Turkey. Individually or accompanied by the bands and ensembles; as well as performing ney and tanbur, he gave seminars and made speeches upon the culture of music, including all European countries, in addition, the USA, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russian Federation and Australia.
In 1998, he was awarded as the "The Musician of The Year" by the "Association for Men of Business & Industry of Black-Sea Region" in the city of Samsun.
In 2000, he released his solo album "Gençlik Hülyaları", followed by the "Dem" album in the year 2004. In 2008, after forming the musical band "Dem Trio" together with Cenk Güray and O. Murat Öztürk, he recorded a new album by Felmay Company called "The Fountain (Serçeşme)", produced in Italy and distributed in Europe and United States of America. In 2015, his solo album "Vahdet Sırrının Sadâsı / Sound of the Secret of Unity (Ney, Tanbur)" was published by Yenikapı Music Company. He also has many works in which he both performed as an artistic conductor and as a musician. Starting from the year of 2009, he has numerous works as the director of arts in the "State Ensemble of Research and Performance on Turkish Classical Music" in Istanbul, affiliated to Ministry of Culture & Tourism.
Published a great number of articles and columns in many periodicals, Prof. Dr. Murat Salim Tokac performed his duty in the Ministry of Culture & Tourism both as the Director-General of Fine Arts and as the conductor of arts in the State Ensemble of Research and Performance on Turkish Classical Music, located in Istanbul. Since 2018, he also contributes as a member to the Scientific Board subsidiary to Atatürk Supreme Council for Culture, Language and History. Recently, he has been assigned to the Directorate of Conservatoire affiliated to University of Halic-Istanbul where he continues his academic, administrative and artistic works. |
