Murat Usanmaz was born in Istanbul in 1976. He started playing the guitar in 1994. In 2001, he entered the Guitar Department at the State Conservatory of Istanbul University, and graduated from Cem Kucumen′s class in 2005. Between 2005 and 2007, Usanmaz studied with composer Rafael Andia at l′Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. He attended the master classes of Manuel Barrueco, David Russell and Pavel Steidl in Germany, of Costas Cotsiolis in Greece, and flamenco guitar summer schools of Emilio Maya and Miguel Angel Cortes in Spain. Usanmaz has performed guitar concertos including "J.Rodrigo – Aranjuez”, "A.Vivaldi – Re Majör", and "F.Carulli – La Majör" many times with various conductors and orchestras. He premiered "Astor Piazzolla - Guitar & Bandoneon Concerto" for the first time in Turkey. He was the first Turkish guitarist who performed the guitar concerto of Cemal Reşit Rey. Usanmaz has given many recitals in Akbank International Art & Guitar Days, CRR Young Guitarists′ Days, and Classical Music Festival of Kadıköy. He has also participated in various projects and festivals in China, Italy, Algeria, Germany, Turkmenistan, and Finland. He has performed in many concert halls such as Aya Irini Museum, İş-Sanat, Borusan, Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall, Nardis Jazz Club, Atatürk Culture Center, National Reassurance, Darphane-i Amire, Yedikule Fortress, and Harbiye Open Air Concert Hall. Currently, Usanmaz performs as a soloist and as a member of "Murat Usanmaz Quintet" and "3gitarIstanbul".
