Nermin Kaygusuz was born in Ankara in 1976. She studied violin at the Turkish Music State Conservatory with Erdoğan Saydam. From 1986 to 1992, she completed her master’s and doctoral degree at Istanbul Technical University. In 1989, she learned kemençe with four strings from Cüneyd Orhon. In 1990, Kaygusuz started teaching kemençe at Turkish Music State Conservatory, and in 2001, she received the Associate Professor title. She worked with Prod. Dr. Berthold Hoeckner on musical aesthetics at the University of Chicago in 2003. Kaygusuz has released three CDs: “Gönülden Damlalar”, “Kemençe ve Gitarla Saz Eserleri”, and “Tekrar.” In 2005, she gave a concert with the Avaze Classical Turkish Music Women, an ensemble of which she is one of the founders. She has also performed with the Melodias Eipcas and the group “Arayışlar”, of which she is a founding member, in Turkey and abroad. Since 2001, she has performed with Istanbul Baroque Ensemble. In 2006, Kaygusuz published the book “Muallim İsmail Hakkı Bey ve Musiki Tekâmül Dersleri.” In 2007, she received the title of Professor. In the following year, she founded the “Nazenin” group. Currently, Prof. Kaygusuz continues performing concerts with the Nazenin group both in Turkey and abroad.
