Pelin Başar

Pelin Başar was born in Istanbul in 1983. She began playing the Ney while studying in the Department of Instrument Training at the State Conservatory of Turkish Music of Istanbul Technical University. During her middle and high school years, she studied Ney with ney masters such as Salih Bilgin and Süleyman Erguner. Başar studied music theory with Yavuz Özüstün and Hulusi Yücebıyık; and repertoire with Erol Sayan. Başar continued her studies in Turkish religious music at the Department of Islamic History and Arts in the Faculty of Theology at Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University. She has performed in many concerts with several groups including the Avaze Turkish Music Women Ensemble and the Mehmet Polat Trio. In 2007 Başar entered the Ministry of Culture, Samsun State Classical Turkish Music Chorus. She currently continues her work as neyzen in Samsun, and her Master′s degree in Classical Turkish Music and Composition at Istanbul University. Başar recently moved to Paris, France.
