Pelin Halkacı Akın was born in Istanbul. She began studying violin with Prof. Nuri İyicil at the age of 8. After graduating from the State Conservatory of Mimar Sinan University, she was invited to be konzertmeister of Cemal Reşit Rey Symphony and Opera Orchestra in Istanbul.
Halkacı Akın attended the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester in 1997, 1998 and 1999. As a member of it, she played under the conduct of Claudio Abbado, Seiji Osawa, Semyon Bychkov, Pierre Boulez and Danielle Gatti in the world’s most important concert halls including Royal Albert Hall in London, Cite de la Musique in Paris, Hercullessaal in München, and Berliner Filharmoniker in Berlin. She has also participated in many festivals in Salzburg, Edinburgh, Tangle wood, Lucerne, B.B.C., Proms, Bolzano and Aix-en-Provence. In 1997, Halkacı Akın performed in the opening concert of the Second International Youth Festival in the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall, Istanbul. She had her recitals in the 23rd and 26th International Istanbul Music Festival, the 9th International Eskişehir Festival and 23rd International Ankara Music Festival. She has given many concerts in different cities in Turkey, Israel, Cyprus, England, Georgia, Hungary and Romania.
Halkacı Akın attended master classes of Prof. Jean Fournier at the Mozarteum Sommerakademie in Salzburg and in Istanbul. After that she participated in Keshet Eilon Violin Master classes in 2000, 2001, and 2002, where she had lessons with Slomo Mintz, Ida Haendel, Ani Schnarch and Vadim Gluzman. At the end of the course, Halkacı Akın was awarded with a loan violin for one year, which was made in 1907 in Italy by Gaetano Pollastri. In 2003, she participated in the Keshet Eilon 2003 as a faculty member.
She has performed with Turkey’s leading orchestras such as Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic, the Presidential Symphony Orchestra, Istanbul, Antalya, Cukurova, Bursa State Symphony Orchestras, the Eskisehir Orchestra, Cemal Reşit Rey Symphony Orchestra, Mersin Chamber Orchestra, Borusan Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Saygun and Enkara Sinfonietta.
Currently Halkacı Akın teaches violin as an Associate Professor at the State Conservatory of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. She is a concertmaster of Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra and Borusan Chamber Orchestra since 1999.
