Sermet Kutluğ was born in Istanbul in 1955. He studied classical music with Reşit Erzin at Istanbul Municipality Conservatory. He took cello lessons from Kemal Batanay, Cüneyd Orhon and his father Fikret Kutluğ. Sermet Kutluğ also studied Turkish music with Emin Ongan at Üsküdar Music Society (Üsküdar Musiki Cemiyeti). While working as a musician at TRT Istanbul Radio in 1979-1996, he taught cello at Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory from 1983-1987. In 1981 Kutluğ joined Directorate of Presidential Classical Turkish Music Choir. He currently continues his work in Istanbul.
