Ahmet Özhan was born in Urfa in 1950. He finished primary and middle school. He first learned music and philosophy of mysticism from his family. Later he studied at Istanbul Municipality Conservatory and Üsküdar Musiki Cemiyeti under Emin Ongan. In 1970s, Özhan began singing among the group of Emel Sayın in the Bebek Municipality Casino. He was invited to sing in the Maksim Casino by Fahrettin Aslan. Özhan then started singing in the Maksim Casino when he was 17 years old and became a star. After starring in the film “Çocuğumu İstiyorum” (1973), Özhan performed in several films.
Since 1991, Özhan has served as a general director in the Istanbul Historical Turkish Music Ensemble (Istanbul Tarihi Türk Müziği Topluluğu), which belongs to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. With the Ensemble, Özhan has given numerous concerts in Turkey and abroad including Tokyo and San Francisco. In 1998, he received the title of State Artist from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. He took a role in musical documentary films of Hacı Arif Bey, Aliş, and Hafız Yusuf Efendi. Özhan represented Turkey in the Asia Music Festival in Singapore.
Özhan has been awarded many times for his performances and programs. He has made many records and CDs including Turkish Mystic Music album “Ateş Aşk”, “İlahiyat-ı Kenan” and “Rüya”. He also prepared a TV music program “Şarkılar Seni Söyler” for 4 years and appeared as a presenter and singer. Özhan has taught at the Üsküdar Musiki Cemiyeti and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Conservatory.
