Murat Karahan was born in Ankara in 1977. He graduated from the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts at Bilkent University in Ankara in 2003. He then started working as a guest artist at the Ankara State Opera and Ballet. He also pursued his Master′s degree with Prof. Pekin Kırgız at his alma mater. In 2005 he was invited to Italy by Marco Berdondini, a conductor, and worked with him. In the same year, Karahan continued his doctoral degree at his alma mater and worked as a soloist in the Ankara State Opera and Ballet. In 2009 he went to Rome again and studied with Prof. Bruno Cagli at Academia di Danat Cecilia. Karahan took a master class of Renata Scotto, Anna Vandi and Cesare Scarton.
Karahan has been a soloist of the ensemble of Ankara State Opera and Ballet since 2005. In 2010 he performed a role in Rossini′s opera "Maometto Secondo," which was staged by Yekta Kara, in the opening of the International Istanbul Opera Festival. Since 2012 Karahan is a regular guest at the Latvian National Opera, Riga, where he has performed many leading tenor parts such as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor and Alfredo in La Traviata. In 2015 Karahan appeared at the Bolshoi Theatre as Rodolfo (La Boheme) and Alfredo (La Traviata). In the same year, he performed in the Bolshoi Theatre production of Carmen, singing the role of Don Jose.
Among his repertoire includes roles such as Rodolfo in La Boheme, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Paolo Erisso in Rossini’s Maometto Secondo, Edwin in Kalman’s Die Csardasfurstin, Caramello in J.Strauss’ Eine Nacht in Venedig, Camille De Rosillon in Die Lustige Witwe, Behlül in S.Ada’s Aşk-ı Memnu, Dumuzi in Ç.Işıközlü’s Inanna, as well as the tenor parts in Mozart’s and Webber’s Requiem, Beethoven`s 9th Symphony, and Carmina Burana.
Karahan received the "Best Opera Singer" award in the Fifth Donizetti Classical Music Awards in Turkey in 2014.
