Sinem Saniye was born in Munich in 1979. After her father’s death, she and her mother moved to the US. She started writing songs and singing at the age of five. She entered Skidmore College and studied biology. After a year and a half, she decided to change her major to music and began studying classical voice and music technology. As a senior member of the Dynamics, she arranged a vocal rendition of “I Want You Back” by the Jackson 5. After graduating from college with honors in music, she worked at her alma mater and recorded her first demo CD and performed at open concerts around town. Though she pursued her master’s degree in music technology at New York University, she decided to sing and perform, and started working with the musician and producer Philip A. Jimenez.
In 2008, she released her album “When I Don’t Sleep...” with her new producer Henri Scars Struck, who won a Grammy award. Her album was selected as one of the Best 10 albums of the 2008 by Global Rhythm Magazine. Saniye has won many awards including the “Grand Prize” in the International John Lennon Songwriting Competition (2006), Australian Songwriting Award (2007), International Songwriting Competition Finalist (2007), Lennon Award (2007), Mountain Stage New Song Contest Finalist (2008), UK Songwriting Award (2008), and Billboard World Music Award (2008). In 2010, her songs were used by the Delta Airways. She has worked with famous artists such as Madonna, Lousie Attaque, David Bowie, No Doubt, and Norah Jones.
Saniye played her first US and Vancouver Tour 2010, and ended the tour in her native New York City. She sang American National Song on the occasion of LA Clippers NBA Basket match. Saniye has been featured in well-known magazines and papers including Timeout NY, Global Rhythm Magazine, The Village Voice, The Los Angeles Times, the LA Examiner, The Idaho Tribune, DC IST, and television programs across the US such as Indi Music TV, Music Mix USA, Swept Away TV, the Rhythms of NY, the Directors Chair, and Metro Unplugged; and international TV programs including CNN, Fox TV, Kanal D, TGRT-Haber, TRT-INT, Flash TV Haber, and ATV, and MTV. In 2011, Saniye has given her concerts in Turkey.
