Süleyman Erguner was born in Istanbul in 1957. He started his musical education and ney in his childhood with his father Ulvi Erguner, who was a great master of the Turkish Classical music. Süleyman graduated from the Istanbul Turkish Music State Conservatory in 1979. He continued his study in the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Marmara University and graduated in 1981. He obtained post graduate and Ph. D. degrees in music.

In 1975, Erguner began working as a ney artist in the TRT Istanbul Radio. He served as the conductor of the Istanbul Radio Mystic Music Ensemble as well as the chief of the Classical Music Chorus. He was also a lecturer at the Istanbul Technical University, Turkish Music Conservatory for both the theory and practice of the Turkish Classical music. Erguner has introduced Turkish music and ney to the world through his concerts. Since 1975 he has participated in many TRT concerts and other official organizations. He has also participated in concerts and congress of UNESCO.

In 1995, Erguner became the leader of the Istanbul Mevlevi Ensemble, which was founded in 1980. In the same year, he founded the Erguner Mevlevi Ensemble. He has released various CDs including  "A Conduction Collection," "Şah Ney," "Erguner Ensemble Instrumental - Choir Musique Turque," "Suleyman Erguner Mevlevi Heyeti," "Mevlevî Dervishes Tourneurs," "Fasil," "Enderûn Musique Ottoman," "Nefes Mevlevi-Bektasi," "Harem Ensemble of Istanbul Woman," "Sufi Music of Ottoman Court" and "Tende Canim." After he retired from TRT in 2006, Erguner established the Süleyman Erguner Ney Workshop. In 2007 he founded the "Süleyman Erguner International Ney Ensemble" on the occasion of the Year of Mevlana, and performed many concerts. In addition to his CDs, Erguner has composed maqams and forms. He published a book entitled Ney Metodu (1986). Erguner currently continues his work and teaches ney at his workshop.
