 Uğur Işık was born in 1964. He started music education in the Beşiktaş Music Association. At the age of 17, he entered Istanbul Turkish Music State Conservatory and studied oud with Ömer Şatıroğlu and cello with Hüsnü Özenen, Nejat Tekebaş and Zafer Köke. Işık taught at the conservatory between 1985 and 1995. He then started working as a cellist at the Istanbul Radio. In 1992, he participated in Turkish music group “the Bosphorus”. Işık has also joined another groups such as Anadolu Feneri, Sarband, Sultan’s Minsteres, Minsterels Era and İnce Saz, and given many concerts in different countries. In addition, he has played for documentary and film sounds and many CD recordings. Işık composed and played music for Murat Bardakçı’s documentary program “Son Osmanlılar” and “Tarihinin Arka Odası”; and Hakan Şahin’s film “Snow”. He has researched about the tradition of Ottoman music and Anatolian folk music, and played them with cello. In 2005, Işık released his first solo album “Cello Unveils Anatolian Spirit”. In 2007, he gave his first solo concert in Rotterdam and Amsterdam within the Turkey Now Festival. He also gave other concerts in Antwerp and Den Haag. In 2008, Işık released his second CD “Cello Invocation”.
