Volkan Yılmaz was born in Istanbul in 1975. He graduated from Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory, where he studied ney under the guidance of prominent masters such as Fuat Türkelman and Salih Bilgin. In 1995 Yılmaz started working as a ney player in the TRT Istanbul Radio. In 1994-1998 he performed with Ayangil Turkish Music Orchestra and Chorus in many concerts and CD recordings. Yılmaz also gave concerts with Ensemble Sarbant in various cities in Europe. With Ensemble Sarbant and Concerto Cologne, Yılmaz performed for the album "Dream of the Orient," which was released by Deutsche Gramophone in 2003. In addition, Yılmaz has played ney for many CD works. He has held many concerts with Mızrabın Nefesi Group, which was founded in 2003. In 2006 Yılmaz joined Istanbul Sazendeleri Group and performed in many concerts in Turkey and abroad. In 2007 he started working as a ney player in the Istanbul State Ensemble of Research and Application of Turkish Music.
