Yavuz Bingöl was born in Istanbul in 1964. He is a Turkish folk song singer and an actor. He graduated from the Department of French Horn-Piano at the Ankara State Conservatory in 1979. In 1987-1989 in Izmir, he performed bağlama (stringed folk instrument with a pear-shaped wooden body and a long neck) in many concerts of famous artists such as Huri Sapan, Hakkı Bulut, Belkıs Akkale, Hülya Süer, Bergen, and İbrahim Tatlıses. In the end of 1989 Bingöl founded the group Umuda Ezgi with Nihat Aydın. Bilgöl composed more than 15 works for the group. In 1995 he resigned from the group and started performing as a solo musician. His first solo album "Sen Türkülerini Söyle" was received a great deal of attention. In 1995-2000 Bingöl gave more than 200 concerts in Turkey and 15 concerts in Europe. He was selected as a peace envoy by UNESCO. His name was given to a street as "Yavuz Bingöl Sanat Sokağı" (Yavuz Bingöl Art Street) by the Izmir Narlıdere Municipality. Bingöl has released many albums including "Baharım Sensin" (1997), "Gülen Az" (1998), "Sitemdir" (1999), "Üşüdüm Biraz" (2000), "Belki Yine Gelirsin" (2002), "Unutulur Herşey" (2004), "Biz" (2006), "Yare" (2007), and "Kül" (2010).
Besides being a Turkish folk musician, Bingöl is an actor. He has acted in many films such as "Cumhuriyet" (1998), "Salkım Hanımın Taneleri" (1999), "O şimdi Asker" (2002), and "O Şimdi Mahkum" (2005). In 2008, he acted in the film "Three Monkeys," with which the director Nuri Bilge Ceylan won the award for Best Director in the Cannes Film Festival. Bingöl has also acted in many TV series such as "Bayanlar Baylar" (2002), "Zerda" (2002), "Ah Be Istanbul" (2004), "Yanık Koza" (2005), and "Eşref Saatı" (2008). He currently lives and works in Istanbul.
