Zeynettin Maraş was born in Istanbul, Suadiye in 1927. During middle school, Maraş participated in a music group in his neighborhood and learned music from famous musicians such as Dr. Hamit Hüsnü, Sine Keman Nuri and Astikzade Boğos. After his military service, Maraş entered Istanbul Municipality Conservatory and studied oud, Turkish music theory, singing, solfege and folklore with Münin Nurettin Selçuk, Şefik Gürmeriç, Mesut Cemil, Nevzat Atlığ, Refik Fersan and Şerif Muhittin Targan. Maraş then started working as an accountant at Denizcilik Bank, continuing his music. In 1947, he composed “Gözyaşlarımı Derdime Derman Ettiğim Akşam”, which was written by his sister Necla Tarzi, in Hicazkar mode and Curcuna style. His first composition was sung by Muzaffer İlkar on Ankara Radio in 1949. He has composed over 26 pieces including “İnleyen Nağmeler ile Gizli Aşk” (1966). Later Maraş left Denizcilik Bank to concentrate on composition. He taught music and served as a chorus conductor in some music associations. He has also given many concerts. Currently Maraş teaches music at home.
