Dinçer Sümer was born in Izmir in 1938. He started acting in plays and performing in films when he was a student. He graduated from the Theater Department at the Ankara State Conservatory. He researched on theater in Poland, Germany and the USA. Since 1961, Sümer has served as an actor and a stage director in the State Theatre. He was a member of the State Theatre Literary Committee and the Administration of the Playwrights Association. Sümer also taught dramatization at Anadolu University. He has been awarded for his contribution to art by Türk Dil Kurumu, TRT, TOBAV, BAV and TBMM. In 1998, Sümer received the title of “State Artist” from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
