Nedret Güvenç

Nedret Güvenç was born in Çeşme, Izmir in 1930. She studied singing and piano at Ankara State Conservatory. She started performing in plays at the Izmir Municipality Theatre in 1948. In 1950 she moved to Istanbul and joined the Istanbul Municipality Theatre. In 1959-1960 she also acted in many plays at the Ankara State Theatre. Güvenç has acted in numerous theater plays and over 170 films and TV series. She has received many awards including Muhsin Ertuğrul Special Prize in the 16th Afife Theatre Awards (2012). In 1975 Güvenç directed the play "En Büyük Kumar." Since then she has also worked as director. After retiring from the Istanbul Municipality Theatre in 1995, Güvenç joined the Theatre Istanbul. In 1998 she received the title of State Artist. Güvenç has published 6 books including "Kum Zambakları" (Istanbul: Gürer Yayınları, 1989), "Bir Zamanlar İzmir′de" (Istanbul: İş Bankası Yayınları, 1991), "Dinle Beni" (Istanbul: Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları, 2003), "Aşk Yoksunları" (Istanbul: İnkılâp Kitabevi, 2005), "Sahnede 40 Yıl Albümü" and "Müjde Mutfakta." She currently lives and works in Istanbul.
