Metin Balay was born in Bergama in 1956. He finished at Izmir College. He got the AFS fellowship and went to Yale University for a year and participated in a theater seminar. He studied engineering at Middle Eastern Technical University then switched his subject to theater and entered the Theater Department at Ankara University. After completing his master’s and doctoral degree at his alma mater, Balay began working at the State Theater and AST as an actor and a director. He also taught at Anadolu University for a long time. In 1994, Balay became an Associate Professor. He has written many plays. As of today, Balay teaches at the Theater Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts of Yeditepe University and the Theater department in the Conservatory of Haliç University.
