Yücel Erten was born in Muş in 1945. He graduated from the Theater Department at Ankara State Conservatory. He also studied stage management at Essen Folkwang College. Erten started working at the State Theater as an actor, translator, playwright as well as director. He also taught acting at the Theater Department in the Faculty of Humanities at Ankara University for a long time. In addition to teaching theater, Erten also performed in many films. He served as General Art Director in the İzmit Municipality Theatre and as General Director in the State Theatres. In 1999, he won the “Best Director of the Year” award in the Third Afife Theater Awards for his performance in the play “Ferhad ile Şirin.” Erten has published two books: Devletin Tiyatrosu Olmaz! (mi?) (Istanbul: Boyut Publication House, 2000) and Azizname ‘95 (Istanbul: Mitos Boyut Publications, 2007). In 2010, he received the "Best Director of the Year" in the 15th Sadri Alışık Film and Theater Awards for the play "Kabare."
