Adem Sakal was born in Giresun in 1956. He graduated from the Faculty of Theology at Erzurum Atatürk University. He studied rik’a writing with Dr. Muzaffer Ecevit. In 1980’s, Sakal learned sülüs and nesih writings, and the art of ebru from M. Fuat Başar. In 1995, Sakal started studying calligraphy with calligraphy masters Mehmet and Osman Özçay, and achieved his success. Sakal has participated in many group exhibitions, and has received many awards for his calligraphy works in Turkey and abroad. Currently, he teaches at the Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts in the Faculty of Fine Arts of Süleyman Demirel University.
