Ahrat Taşkan

Ahrat Taşkan was born in Sivas in 1966. After finishing primary school, he began working as an apprentice. He became a master craftsman when he was 17 years old. The history of wooden handicraft cigarette holders, named “Çubukçuluk” goes back to the 1800s. Sivas made wooden cigarette holders from trees, “germişek” or “karamuk”, provided from Tokat, Erzincan, Kars and Ağrı districts.
These years, as people sever from smoking cigarettes, wooden cigarette holder of Sivas have been replaced by gift goods such as pencils, name plates, needle cases, candlesticks, minarets and ball point pens. Taşkan says that one must have delicate workmanship to make these arts and he affirms that he is this type of work.
