Assistant Prof. Ali Rıza Özcan was born in Zonguldak in 1968. He graduated from the Branch of Illumination and Calligraphy at the Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University. He completed his master′s (1989) and doctoral degree in proficiency in arts (1997) at the same university. In 1989 he began learning sülüs and nesih scripts from Hüseyin Kutlu, and received his professional license in 2002. He has participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad, and received many awards. He has also attended national and international symposiums and presented his papers. In 2013 he published the book İstanbul′un 100 Kitabesi (Istanbul: Kültür A.Ş., 2013) as one of the series of "Istanbul′s 100 Collectors." Özcan currently continues working at Mimar Sinan University.
