Ayhan Savut was born in Osmangazi, Bursa. His grandfather, Mustafa Efendi, started to create copper works and alem (finial: top section of minaret) under the Crimean master in Bursa Grand bazaar (Kapalıçarşı). In 1889 he passed the examination, which was held by the guild of artisans and got the certification of Bursa Ulu Mosque. Ayhan’s father, Lütfü Savut, worked at Bursa Grand bazaar under Mustafa Efendi since his young age, and became a master craftsman. He continued to make copper works after quitting administrative district and special secretary positions. He became one of famous artisans during that time. Ayhan Savut also had a passion for this art and started to work under his father after finishing high school. Today, Savut took over his family business and has continued to make copper works and finials at the historical Ottoman house which was restored by his grandfather, in Kayahan Çarşısı.
