Cemal Aygün was born in Silifke in 1942 and finished Işıklı primary school. He started working with his father who was a blacksmith. Using his own technique, Aygün made Işıklı knives which are famous in that region. Between 1966 and 1971 Aygün served as a marine fitter in the Iskenderun Naval Forces. In 1974 he began working as an assemblage manufacturer in Anadolu Glass Industry. In 1985 Aygün left Anadolu Glass Industry and started teaching about turn arrangement, heating iron and making knives as a master teacher at Silifke Public Education Center and the Evening Art School until 1997. After retiring from teaching in 1997, he restarted his teaching career at the request of the governor’s office in Silifke in 2007. Aygün is pleased to teach knife and house ware making to a young generation.
